Mr. Obama came into office with a promise to clean up Washington. "On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics," he said in his inaugural address.
ReplyDeleteOf course, talking about changing the way Washington works is a standard component of the campaign rhetoric. For Mr. Obama, the goal to change Washington was more than campaign rhetoric. He came into office as an idealist, accustomed to solving complex problems with the power of his logic and collegiality.
